My DH had his surgery earlier today to repair his carpel tunnel..we were in and out in about 3 hours--thought that was really quick. Now comes the hard part---restrictions!! Actually, the hardest part is the surgery was on his right hand--he's right handed--can't use that hand for at least two weeks due to the bandaging, then it's restricted use for up to 6 weeks--no lifting, gripping (like opening a jar), etc. He is not a happy puppy at all and I'm afraid it's going to be a rough 6 weeks..the first 4 days he has to hold the hand so that it is above his heart to prevent severe swelling and he thinks this is the hard part..HA!! Wait till the bandages come off and he can't do his woodworking, etc. for another 4-6 weeks---
And of course, since he's right handed, so he also has problems getting dressed and undressed--man, I thought I was done dressing kids!! It's really funny because I haven't dressed anyone for almost 30 years. Thankfully, I talked him into sweat pants so there's no jeans to button or zip--... he's doing fine with that so far. I guess as long as he doesn't get real whiney or grouchy, then I'll be okay and we'll get along fine---can anyone say, that isn't going to happen?? Anyway, it's over and hopefully there won't be any problems ...other than he is going to be a big pain in the you know what. Thank God, I'm off until Monday, so I can get through the first four days making sure he keeps the hand up and I can do the meals during the day till he's used to using the left hand to do stuff....and if he doesn't do as told, I can get my MIL over here and she'll make sure he does!!! She's a fiesty 85 year old who won't take any guff from him.
Speaking of cooking, I better get moving on dinner now or he'll be yelling up here at me to tell me he's starving...poor guy!!
